Liquor Compliance Post Covid-19 Restrictions

ClubCOLLECTIVE June 2022

Licensing Units from Police Area Commands have been directed to shift focus from COVID regulations and return to vigorously policing liquor compliance across NSW hospitality venues.

Police are now concentrating on intoxication levels, management of minors and specific license conditions within licensed premises.  Any spike in violent or anti-social behaviour associated with a venue will also attract close scrutiny of regulators.

The crackdown on liquor compliance has commenced and will continue to involve undercover audits conducted by Police and Inspectors from Liquor and Gaming NSW at peak trade times in both metropolitan and regional clubs.

With the last two years of COVID restricting trade within hospitality, many clubs have been forced to renew their current workforce with recruits that have little or no experience in a licensed venue. For the staff that worked throughout COVID, they were often preoccupied with patrons being masked, remaining seated and capacity limits, therefore not attentive to liquor compliance.

It is essential clubs proactively train their staff to refocus their attention and highlight the importance of lawful compliance when involved in the sale, supply and service of liquor.
