ClubCOLLECTIVE March 2023
Many venues across the hospitality industry are tackling the challenge of under-staffing, which has led to many employees feeling ‘overworked’ and stressed.
What does overworked employees mean for your business?
Overworked or stressed employees present with both physical and mental symptoms, usually as a combination of the two. Stressed workers lead to dysfunction in your operations.
What can you do?
Employers have a responsibility to minimise their workers exposure to workplace stressors that increase the risk of stress-related illness, injury, and decreased business performance.
This could take on many forms including, but not limited to;
- Consultation – talk to your team about their suggestions on the best way to deal with this issue. For example, looking into rostering.
- Rotating workers as much as possible – try to limit the number of back-to-back or overtime shifts, and be aware of the length of shifts for your workers.
- Outsourcing less skilled roles – this may allow your more experienced staff to focus on the more fundamental tasks of their role.
- In extreme cases you may need to adjust your line of operation.
