Victorian Government Announces Gaming Reform
23-119 | 17 July 2023
Relevant for Directors, CEOs, Managers
Member clubs are advised that on Sunday the Victorian Government announced a number of gaming reforms, including changes to the operation of electronic gaming machines in the state.
While the announcement has no direct impact on the operations of clubs in NSW, it may impact discussions relating to gaming reform in NSW.
The Victorian package includes:
- Mandatory pre-commitment limits
- Mandatory carded play
- A reduction in the load-up limit, down to $100 from $1,000
- Mandatory closure of gaming machine areas between 4.00am and 10.00am
- Slower spin rates for new machines of three seconds per game, up from 2.1 seconds per game.
These changes will come into effect in 2024 subject to consultation with industry through to an implementation working group, similar to the NSW Government’s panel.
It should be noted that the NSW Government has already committed to measures relating to cashless gaming and load-up limits. Mandatory closure periods have been in place in NSW for some time.
ClubsNSW will monitor information from the Victorian Government about the implementation of the measures in this announcement and advise of any impact this may have on NSW gaming policy.
If you wish to speak to ClubsNSW about changes to gaming policy, please email enquiries@clubsnsw.com.au or call ClubASSIST on 1300 730 001 and ask to speak with a Policy and Government representative.
